Cyber Crimes wing deals with the offences related to Cyber Crimes, Video Piracy and Copy Rights Act and Offences under Information Technology Act. Andhra Pradesh is one of the pioneer States to set up the Cyber Crime Police Station to deal with Cyber Offences effectively. The first Cyber Crime Police Station of AP under the administrative control of Crime Investigation Department was formed on 23-12-2002 vide G.O.Ms.No.128 Home (Police) Department. The Police Station has jurisdiction of whole Andhra Pradesh and deals with Cyber offences, which come under Information Technology Act.
a) Cyber Crime Police Station
Cyber Crime cases will be registered at Cyber Crime Police Station whenever a cognizable cyber crime is reported under Information Technology Act with due permission by the Addl.Director General of Police, CID. Digital investigation with Forensic activity will be done at Digital Investigation Lab. Procuring data from service providers such as Internet Service Providers, Mobile Service Providers, Banks, Payment gateways, Webmail Service Providers, Social Network Service Providers is done as per the provisions of Sec.91 Cr.P.C.
b) Video Piracy Cell
This Cell conducts investigation of the cases registered in CID, monitors the investigation of piracy cases being done by local police . This cell also issues instructions to the local police based on the reports furnished by AP Film Chamber of Commerce regarding piracy of films. Information is to be updated and instructions are to be issued to the local police from time to time by this cell.
c) Copyright Act Cell
This cell deals with the cases of violations under Copy Right Act. Copyright Enforcement Advisory Council (CEAC) Meeting under the Chairpersonship of Secretary (Higher Education) in the Ministry of Human Resource Development periodically reviews the progress of the Enforcement of Copyright Act, 1957 and to advise the Government regarding measures for improving enforcement of the Copyright Act, 1957.
